Governor Profiles

Mandy Milsom - Chair of Governors

My name is Mandy Milsom and I have been a governor at Chestnut Primary School since the school opened. I was appointed Vice Chair of Governors in September. I am the link governor responsible for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), Pupil Premium and Health and Safety.

I am also Chair of Governors of another primary school within the Clevedon Learning Trust which gives me additional insight into governance and the work of the Trust.

worked in education for a long time, over 33 years. I joined the Governing Body as I wanted to give back to the sector after retiring. I wanted to use my experience and skills to support Chestnut Park Primary School as they start on their exciting educational journey.

I am a grandmother and love spending time with my two granddaughters.

Michele Walters - Vice Chair of Governors

I was invited to be Chair of Governors for Chestnut Park Primary School at the start of its journey as a new school in the growing community of Yatton. Whilst I am not a local resident, I am a retired Deputy Head teacher with over thirty-three years teaching experience. This includes the setting up of two new primary schools in my own community of Portishead and so I am aware of the challenges faced by growing a new school.

I have a strong passion for promoting quality learning with high expectations and outcomes for all children. I believe that all children have a right to outstanding learning opportunities and teaching.

Since taking early retirement, I have worked on the Transforming Lives for Good programme which involved me working 1:1 with vulnerable children in a mentoring/coaching role, in partnership with home and school.

Outside of the school environment, I like to spend my time with family and friends, and take great delight in spending time with my new grandson. I also like to read, bake and swing a few kettle bells to keep fit!!

For personal reasons, I have had to step back from the Chair of Governors role this term, but have remained as Vice chair and link governor with responsibility for Safeguarding and Teaching and Learning.

Verity Wood - Staff Governor

I am Chestnut Park’s staff governor currently working as an LSA in Reception and Pre-School. I am looking forward to taking a lead on promoting staff wellbeing as part of the governing body and offering creative and engaging ideas to help the school develop on its journey.

Yana Yevsiyevich-Smith - Parent Governor

As a local resident and parent in the Chestnut Park community, I am keen to offer my skills and services in developing an empowered school organization that provides our children with the best school experience.
Formerly Head of Ethics & Philosophy in a local secondary school and currently a copywriter, with a background in website design and marketing, I’ve used my experience in the Chestnut Park Primary School PTA to:

  • develop a website with functions to build a strong and profitable fundraising community
  • create all social media and offline marketing campaigns as Head of Marketing (‘Marketing Guru’)
  • build relationships with start-up companies (e.g., Ripples) to help future fundraising efforts
  • help initiate steps to charity status for the PTA

I am a home practitioner and advocate of Montessori methodology, and creator of Our Montessori Journey (a guided journal for parents/carers who want to observe, reflect and grow alongside their little humans). I hope to give insight into different methods and perspectives of approaching children’s education. In this way, I will further champion the values of the school by bridging traditional and non-traditional practices to voice a unique viewpoin
