Chestnut ParkPrimary School

Our Story

Chestnut Primary School opened in September 2021.  This is the story of how a muddy Yatton field was transformed into our thriving school community.

Summer 2020 - School build

Willmott Dixon finished construction in 2020, but the school couldn't open in September because of the Covid pandemic.

May 2021 - First headteacher appointed

Tamara Dexter was appointed as Chestnut Park's first headteacher in May 2021 and stated: ‘It is an absolute privilege to have been asked to be the Headteacher of Chestnut Park by the Clevedon Learning Trust.

‘I am incredibly excited to work with the Trust and team at Chestnut Park to open the school and ensure it moves from strength to strength, providing only the very best educational experiences for the children. I am dedicated to supporting pupils to learn, as they are immersed in an extensive academic curriculum accompanied by vast and varied enrichment opportunities.

‘At the heart of my vision for the school is a commitment to provide an extraordinary education, value individuality and prepare children to be lifelong learners. I very much look forward to working in unison with the school community to ensure pupils become knowledgeable, responsible and resilient citizens who positively contribute to the world around them.’

June 2021 - Sea eagle sculpture

Our iconic stainless steel see eagle sculpture was installed June 2020 and has greeted visitors ever since. The sculpture was created by local artist Hayley Jones and is based on finds made during an archaeological dig on the grounds before the school was built.

September 2021 - Opening ceremony

Our school opened to its first cohort of Reception children in September 2021.  A formal celebration event was held on Friday 17 September.  The event was attended by lots of VIPs and the children received a special memento.

March 2023 - Trim Trail

Incredibly generous donations from Curo and Strongvox allowed us to open our school's Trim Trail, which has been enjoyed by children (and occasionally parents!!) ever since.

May 2023 - Library Grand Opening

On Friday 5 May 2023 we officially opened our school library.  Children, parents and staff attended the event and were wowed by inspirational children's author Cheryl Lee-White.  They enjoyed a special reading assembly and listened to Cheryl read her book 'The Kindness Trio'.  This was an important story for our school as it aligns with the 'School Promise' to ‘Be safe, Be Respectful, Be Kind and Be ready to learn’.
